The Chapel of the Assumption of Saint Mary, also known as ‘taż Żellieqa’, was founded in the seventeenth century in thanksgiving. A fifteenth century account tells of the Virgin Mary appearing to a poor local maiden and curing her of illness, a story that gave rise to the special devotion linked to this chapel. The event is recalled on two marble plaques set into the façade.
