The origins of the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows in Mqabba date back to the 16th century, when it was dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. In the 19th century, its identity shifted as the dedication changed. The annual feast of Our Lady of Sorrows became notable for the charitable distribution of bread to the many poor villagers, reflecting the community’s needs and the church’s role in local social and religious life.
