This magnificent wooden statue of Saint George, venerated in the Collegiate Archmatrix Parish Church of Qormi, was created by Pietro Felici in 1739. Felici was the sculptor of Malta’s first locally produced titular statues, and he carved this figure of Saint George at the age of seventy. It was first carried in the procession of 1741, which used to take place on 23 April.
