Il-Katidral ta’ Għawdex

€55.00

The Gozo Cathedral is a remarkable baroque landmark built from local limestone in the shape of a Latin cross. Constructed between 1697 and 1711 to the designs of Maltese architect Lorenzo Gafà, who also created Mdina Cathedral, it stands on the site of an earlier Roman temple, fragments of which still lie beneath. The cathedral is best known for its trompe l’oeil ceiling painting, creating the illusion of a dome that was never actually constructed.
